MDCollections is designed with privacy as a fundamental principle, not an afterthought.

App data stays on your device

Your collections, items, images, and documents are stored as files in directories you choose. MDCollections does not use a proprietary cloud database for your collection data.

No ads and no cloud sync requirement

MDCollections does not serve ads, and the app does not require you to upload your collection to MDCollections-managed servers in order to use it.

Optional Barcode Lookup

MDCollections includes an optional product lookup feature that uses a third-party API (UPCItemDB) to retrieve product information from barcodes. This feature is disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled by you. When enabled, the only data sent is the barcode number — no personal information, no device identifiers.

Website analytics

The MDCollections marketing website may use basic website analytics to understand page traffic and improve the site. That is separate from the app itself and does not change the local-first design of your collection data.

Your Files, Your Control

Because MDCollections stores everything as plain Markdown files, you always have full control over your data. You can read, edit, copy, move, or delete your files using any tool — MDCollections never locks you in.
