Barcode Scanning
Adding items to your collection should be fast. With MDCollections, you can scan a UPC, ISBN, or EAN barcode and have the product details filled in automatically.
How It Works
Open a collection, tap the add button, and point your camera at a barcode. MDCollections reads the code instantly and, if you have product lookup enabled, queries a product API to retrieve the item’s name, brand, description, category, and other available metadata. The data populates your item’s properties and you can edit or add to it before saving.
Supported Formats
MDCollections supports UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, and ISBN barcodes. This covers the vast majority of consumer products, books, and media.
Fast Input Workflow
The barcode scanner is designed for speed. When cataloging a shelf of books or a box of records, you can scan one item after another without navigating away from the scanner. Each scan creates a new item with pre-filled data, letting you catalog dozens of items in minutes rather than hours.
Privacy
The barcode lookup feature is disabled by default. When enabled, only the barcode number is sent to the lookup service — no personal information, no device identifiers. You can disable it at any time and continue using the scanner for manual barcode capture without any network requests.
